Bentley’s domestic market in the UK emerges as the leading hybrid market proportionally, with nearly a third of sales chosen as hybrid.
(Crewe, 19 January 2024) Bentley Motors attained its third most successful year in 2023 with global sales of 13,560 deluxe automobiles. While experiencing an 11 percent decrease from 2022, Bentley’s most successful year, enthusiasm for luxury customization soared to unprecedented heights. Approximately three-quarters of Bentley patrons surpassed the 46 billion distinct configurations available from the standard options range to incorporate bespoke elements from Bentley’s Mulliner division, marking a 43 percent increase from 2022, reflecting a craving for genuinely distinctive exclusivity in the luxury sector.
Bentley Patrons also displayed a growing inclination towards higher-end models such as Azure, S, and Speed, the combination of which surged to 70 percent from 30 percent in 2022. Additionally, the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase surpassed expectations by accounting for over a third of the company’s SUV orders in its inaugural full year on the market.
Bentley’s lineup of hybrid vehicles continued to attract attention, with the UK emerging as the foremost market. One in four Flying Spur and Bentayga customers opt for the hybrid variant.
Analyzing regional performance, challenging market conditions persisted, with positive growth observed in Asia Pacific (up by 5 percent) and the Middle East, India, and Africa (up by 2 percent). In comparison, key markets like China and the UK witnessed an 18 percent decline in both cases.
The trend of SUV purchases persisted as Bentayga retained its position as Bentley’s top-selling model, representing 44 percent of total sales and reinforcing its status as the most successful luxury SUV globally. Furthermore, consistent appeal persisted for the Continental GT and GT Convertible, constituting nearly a third of sales, at 31 percent, with the Flying Spur, the premier luxury four-door grand tourer globally, accounting for 25 percent of total sales.
Despite challenging conditions in pivotal regions across the globe, the Americas maintained its status as the largest-selling global market. Interestingly, Bentley’s domestic demand in the UK now leads in hybrid model sales proportionally, with 27 percent of 2023 sales opting for the hybrid variant.
In his remarks on global sales results, Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, stated:
“The luxury market did not remain unaffected by the challenging market conditions witnessed globally in the latter half of 2023, yet despite this; we managed to secure our third-best retail position in history and commence 2024 with a robust order backlog. Building upon this, our sales quality saw significant enhancement, with substantial growth in our higher-value derivatives and a marked increase in demand for customized personalization.
“We maintain a cautiously optimistic outlook for the year ahead, with sustained strong global demand across markets and models, heightened interest in our hybrid models, and more offerings slated for release this year.”
