Miami Art Week is typically a massive event, and this year’s lineup of ambitious art installations that stretch from Lincoln Road to the mainland promises to make it even more spectacular. These enormously ambitious productions provide a singular creative experience that is to be noticed.
A 45-foot-tall female nude dressed in thousands of LED lights is one of the attractions; it’s a captivating sight ideal for Lincoln Road. This 32,000-pound kinetic sculpture by Marco Cochrane, dubbed “R-Evolution,” premiered at Burning Man and will now be a focal point of activity on Miami Beach’s busy boulevard all winter. This artwork will catch your attention with its brilliant presence if you are near Lincoln and Meridian Avenue. (Address: 400 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, Florida)
With landmark locations like The Strand and Sunday afternoon tea dances, the nexus between the beach and drag culture dates back to the 1980s. This year, the Brazilian ensemble Assume Vivid Astro Focus honors iconic drag figures with a fresh commissioned work. Hanging flags featuring the likes of Adora, Athena Dion, Carla Croqueta, Fantasia Royale, Juice Love Dion, Lady Paraiso, Persephone Von Lips, Power Infinity, The Regina Black, Tiffany Fantasia, and TP Lords creates a vibrant and festive atmosphere along Espaola Way. Miami Beach launched the Elevate Española public art initiative in 2022, which includes this artwork. The homage to these significant drag industry individuals will be appreciated by those with pleasant recollections of the past.
