Dubai, a city renowned for redefining luxury, is set to unveil its latest architectural masterpiece: Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. Designed by acclaimed architect Shaun Killa, this superyacht-inspired resort promises to be a game-changer in high-end hospitality when it opens its doors on March 14. In an exclusive interview, Killa shares his vision behind this iconic project and what makes it stand out in a city famed for its extravagant skyline.
A New Icon in Dubai’s Hospitality Landscape
Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is more than just a hotel; it is an experience. With its striking, curvilinear silhouette inspired by the sleek elegance of a superyacht, the resort offers a refreshing contrast to Dubai’s towering skyscrapers. Unlike the bold and ultra-modern designs the city is known for, this property embraces the philosophy of “quiet luxury” — an understated, yet profoundly immersive form of elegance that prioritizes quality over opulence.
The resort joins the elite portfolio of Jumeirah Group, the hospitality brand responsible for the legendary Jumeirah Burj Al Arab. Dubbed “the world’s only 7-star hotel,” the Burj Al Arab revolutionized the luxury hotel scene when it debuted 25 years ago. Now, a quarter-century later, Jumeirah aims to introduce a new era of hospitality with Marsa Al Arab.
Positioned just 1,500 feet across from the Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab occupies its own purpose-built peninsula, creating an exclusive retreat with uninterrupted ocean views. “When we were tasked with designing Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, the directive was clear: it had to complement the Burj Al Arab, not compete with it,” explains Killa.
A Vision of Seamless Elegance
Unlike its predecessor, which rises sharply into the sky, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab flows effortlessly like a yacht gliding through water. The 16-story structure is defined by its asymmetrical design, soft contours, and double-curved lines that create a sense of motion. Rather than aiming for height, the resort focuses on spatial harmony, seamlessly blending with its oceanfront setting.
Beyond its architectural brilliance, the resort prioritizes well-being and exclusivity. It houses 386 meticulously designed rooms, each serving as a private sanctuary with expansive balconies overlooking the sea. The hotel also boasts a world-class wellness center, spanning nearly 40,000 square feet across three levels, complete with 13 treatment suites featuring private terraces.

Indulgence Redefined: Dining, Leisure, and Serenity
Dining at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is an experience in itself. With an impressive lineup of eleven distinct restaurants and four bars, the resort caters to a wide array of culinary preferences. From intimate fine dining to lively social settings, every restaurant is designed to offer a unique sensory journey.
Outdoors, the property is equally breathtaking. The resort features an 82-berth marina, a picturesque waterfront promenade, four luxurious pools, two pristine beaches, nine ocean-facing private villas, and 82 serviced residences. Whether guests seek relaxation or adventure, the resort provides an unparalleled selection of premium amenities.
Facilities
With exceptional facilities, including a marina, private beach, and sublime wellness experiences, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is a place to relax, gather, and indulge in carefree moments by the ocean.

A Grand Entrance: Designed for Impact
From the moment guests arrive, they are immersed in an experience unlike any other. The journey begins with a winding approach through lush, tropical greenery, designed to build anticipation before revealing the grand entrance: a dramatic 120-foot arch that stands four stories high. Suspended without a single supporting column, this engineering marvel appears to float weightlessly, framing the ocean and the iconic Burj Al Arab in the distance.
“We designed the entrance to create a powerful emotional impact,” Killa shares. “It’s about crafting a moment that stays with guests long after they leave.”
At night, this philosophy extends to the hotel’s lighting design. Unlike the multi-colored, high-energy light displays seen across Dubai, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab radiates a soft, warm white glow, enhancing the building’s graceful curves rather than overpowering them. “It’s the same approach we used for the Museum of the Future. A building should be illuminated in a way that accentuates its form,” Killa explains.
The Art of Intimate Luxury
Inside, the resort breaks away from the conventional grand lobby format, opting instead for a journey of discovery. Inspired by yacht interiors, the hotel features intricately designed smaller spaces, including cozy bars, sophisticated lounges, and private dining alcoves. “The experience unfolds as guests move through the hotel, revealing new surprises at every turn,” Killa notes.
Five top-tier designers collaborated to shape the interiors, each bringing a distinct touch to different areas of the hotel. The overall aesthetic is warm, refined, and inviting, reflecting Dubai’s deep-rooted tradition of hospitality. “The goal was to make guests feel as though they are stepping into an exclusive private home or an ultra-luxurious yacht,” Killa adds.
A Legacy in the Making
As Dubai prepares for the grand opening of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, Shaun Killa eagerly anticipates seeing his vision come to life. “I want to sit quietly and observe how guests interact with the spaces we’ve designed,” he shares. “What draws their attention? What moments inspire them to pause and take a photo? Those are the moments that define a truly successful design.”
With its masterful blend of architecture, hospitality, and luxury, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is poised to become Dubai’s next legendary destination. This resort isn’t just about setting a new standard for luxury; it’s about reshaping the way guests experience it. As the city continues to push the boundaries of innovation, this superyacht-inspired masterpiece stands as a testament to Dubai’s relentless pursuit of excellence.
