“Being Indian in America, somewhat rarely do we have moments like this where you’re truly with your community and peers in the arts as well. It just feels like an amalgamation of all the things I love,” Vandapanu expressed during the event.

The evening’s founder, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Anjula Acharia, warmly welcomed guests as they descended the grand staircase into the elegantly decorated space. Champagne towers and cocktails infused with contemporary South Asian flavors—such as tamarind and coconut—flowed as the crowd mingled, sharing laughter and stories.

Dinner gave everyone in attendance a flavor of home by including regional delicacies such fresh, toasty Naan and creamy saag paneer. “I’m so happy to see faces, new and old, here tonight – your dreams, ambitions, hard work, and dedication make this community as strong as it is today,” Acharia said in moving remarks. It makes me very happy to honor you all.

Soon the evening’s atmosphere changed to an exciting performance by Indian actress Norah Fatehi supported by Amit Shah’s AATMA Performing Arts dancers. Their vivacious performances drew visitors onto the dance floor fast, starting a happy frenzy. New York’s Kolkata Chai Co., who presented milky-sweet chai alongside Indian confections—perfect treats to round out a fantastic evening—offers guests a sweet interlude as the night wore on. This year’s Diwali Ball was a significant mix of celebration and generosity since it honored custom and raised money for World Central Kitchen by combining grace, culture, and harmony. Enjoy Diwali!
