You can now book a bed and breakfast run by a Michelin-starred chef in Edinburgh

Go to Lyla for its magnificent seafood but don’t forget to stay for breakfast in bed

Edinburgh, a world-leading centre for the arts, has also become a magnet for those who live to eat. Condita, Avery and Little Capo are brilliant restaurants, just off the top of our heads, and making headlines of late is Lyla, an elegant seafood place set within Edinburgh’s finest row of Georgian townhouses.

The brainchild of chef-restaurateur Stuart Ralston, who cut his teeth in New York under the guidance of Gordan Ramsay and the like, Lyla is part of a family of four (Noto, Tipo and Vinette) and holds one of the capital’s seven Michelin stars.

It is also now a bed and breakfast. As of April 2026, Lyla has four rooms above the restaurant, each named after an edible coastal plant—Aster, Linen, Samphire and Purslane—and designed by Glasgow-based studio Scarinish. Inspired by the great outdoors, the rooms make you feel right at home with moody, rich textures, dark wood joinery and high ceilings. The beds are big and comfy, and even the mini-bar wants to impress, stashed with the luxury of Krug, caviar, homemade cocktails and single malt whisky.

Dinner is, needless to say, magical, if you choose to dine downstairs at Lyla. A 10-course tasting menu (£185) will take you through UK produce and seafood from the Scottish Isles, with subtle Japanese flavour influences and techniques. And when you’re still reeling from the meal in the morning, a beautiful breakfast will be delivered to your room. Think fresh pastries, gravlax, cheese, berries and all good things that one desires when having breakfast in bed.
