On Tuesday evening, the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York City paid tribute to one of fashion’s most influential figures — Diane von Furstenberg. The designer, philanthropist, and eternal icon was honored with the 2025 Icon of Culture Award for her lasting impact on Manhattan’s creative and cultural landscape.
The black-tie affair drew a star-studded crowd, including von Furstenberg’s longtime partner Barry Diller, her daughter Tatiana and granddaughter Talita, as well as Karlie Kloss, Tiffany Haddish, Michael Douglas, Andy Cohen, Jennifer Nettles, and Mark Ronson.
Set beside the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the two-year-old PAC NYC provided a striking backdrop for the evening’s celebration. The night featured performances by Esperanza Spalding and Norah Jones, with Seth Meyers serving as master of ceremonies. “Diane has had an immeasurable impact on culture,” said Michael Bloomberg, chair of PAC NYC. “She embodies the creativity and sense of community that this institution represents.”
True to her signature flair, the theater was transformed with whimsical touches — cherry-red lipstick–printed napkins and black-and-white chain link handkerchiefs, nods to DVF’s most beloved motifs. Guests followed suit, many arriving in bold prints, polka dots, and leopard patterns in homage to the designer’s timeless aesthetic.
For the occasion, von Furstenberg wore a flowing kaftan emblazoned with Andy Warhol’s portrait of her, accessorized with gleaming bracelets and a jeweled “In Charge” necklace — a fitting emblem of her enduring influence. On the red carpet, she greeted Tiffany Haddish warmly, the two exchanging smiles and posing for photos before the ceremony began.
Von Furstenberg’s recognition went beyond fashion. The award celebrated her decades-long commitment to revitalizing Lower Manhattan, from her support in the 1990s through its post-9/11 resurgence. A steadfast advocate for creativity, community, and mentorship, she continues to champion emerging artists and nurture the next generation of cultural innovators.
“Legacy is the people you touch, your family, and your body of work,” von Furstenberg reflected.
The evening concluded with a dazzling dance performance choreographed by Lorin Latarro, featuring 25 dancers adorned in DVF wrap dresses — a fitting finale that celebrated the woman who, for over five decades, has remained not just a designer, but a symbol of empowerment and timeless style.
