The ‘Kingfisher’ BENTAYGA EWB
A commission from an Irvine, California couple for a Bentayga EWB embodies the transformative journey crafted by Mulliner. Initially intending to select exterior colors and interior finishes from the myriad of configurations offered within the standard options range, the customers, under the guidance of Mulliner’s Design Manager, Phill Dean, soon found themselves liberated to explore uncharted territories.
They were impressed by Kingfisher’s electric blue hue and wanted a complementary exterior color to enhance their Blackline styling. Deliberations with Bentley’s Paint Shop ensued, affirming the feasibility of a dual-tone finish and thus initiating the expedited introduction of this option for Bentayga EWB.
The ‘One of One’ edition Bentayga
Clients commissioned a Bentayga EWB with a striking Onyx and Kingfisher Blue dual-tone exterior.Having established a foundational specification featuring the Azure wellness-focused package, complemented by Blackline and Touring specifications, the couple further stipulated rear privacy glass and the omission of Bentley lettering on the tailgate, instead allowing the iconic winged B badge to speak for itself.
The Onyx finish blends with gloss black accents in the Blackline specification. It is a striking contrast to the Kingfisher blue hue, while the darkened roof and cabin contribute to a visually lower and sportier aesthetic. This color juxtaposition is mirrored in the 22” ten-spoke wheels, finished in Kingfisher and Beluga. Self-leveling Bentley wheel badges provide the final flourish to the exterior ensemble.
A personalized manifestation of opulence
The interior of this bespoke Bentayga EWB is as breathtaking as it is meticulously crafted, with the clients dedicating numerous hours to exploring the plethora of options alongside Phill Dean. They opted for four seats with airline seat specification and chose Naim for Bentley audio system with ambient lighting. However, the pièce de résistance lies in the clients’ distinctive vision of luxury, manifested in a cabin adorned in the captivating combination of Mandarin and Imperial Blue leather. The car’s interior features Open Pore Koa Veneer and Kingfisher accent hide on various parts of the cabin. When extended, the picnic tables reveal a surface adorned with Kingfisher hide.
Mulliner’s key box secures valuables and jewelry, combining Imperial Blue hide with Mandarin accents and Alcantara lining. Bentley seat emblems are embroidered in Kingfisher, with the same hue employed for contrast stitching throughout the cabin. Even the Imperial Blue over mats feature micro piping in Kingfisher, complemented by Mandarin stitching and outer binding. Poignantly, the door treadplates bear a “One of One” inscription tailored to the client.
A burgeoning preference for bespoke commissions
The dual-tone exterior finish chosen for this Bentayga EWB is now a factory option, showcasing patrons’ contributions. Concurrently, the trend towards Mulliner bespoke commissions continues to gain momentum, with approximately 75 percent of vehicles departing Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, England, in 2023 featuring Mulliner elements. This marks a 43 percent increase in Mulliner content compared to 2022 (itself a landmark year), underscoring the escalating demand for personalized luxury across Bentley’s lineup.
