Dom Pérignon’s Artful Toast to Basquiat in NYC

To commemorate the release of Dom Pérignon’s Vintage 2015 last night, a galaxy of movie stars, models, designers of clothing, and artists assembled in downtown New York City But this was not any release; the limited edition bottles and coffrets were artistically created in partnership with the Basquiat Foundation, fusing the visionary art of Jean-Michel Basquiat with the champagne house’s classic elegance.

The special event organized by the Brant Foundation in East Village turned the evening into a rendezvous of art, fashion, and champagne. The three new bottle designs provide the esteemed champagne a whimsical twist with Dom Pérignon’s iconic shield next to Basquiat’s famous three-pronged crown. Along with these limited edition bottles, coffrets that, taken together, create a triptych of Basquiat’s 1983 painting In Italian, also on show at the venue.

The lively teamwork honors the inventiveness of the late artist and the ageless grace of Dom Pérignon. Among the noteworthy attendees of the elegant celebration were Zoë Kravitz in Saint Laurent, Natasha Lyonne in Michael Kors, Evan Mock, Precious Lee, and many more. From elegant leather suits to stylish duster coats, attendees dressed a mix of edgy autumn designs, capped off with caps of several sorts. Captivated by the mix of Basquiat’s artwork and the champagne, Natasha Lyonne told Vogue, “Basquiat’s work is beautiful.” I visited The Brant Foundation several times and his artwork truly helps me to get lost. What a wonderful human being and creative artist. Owning one would not bother me!

The setting itself was a piece of art history—the Brant Foundation, once a Con Edison substation and residence of Walter De Maria, offered a uniquely industrial yet intimate space for the gathering. Midnight partygoers lined up outside, eager to step into a night filled with flowing Dom Pérignon, immersive art, and the unmistakable buzz of New York’s nightlife. As they entered, they were greeted by polaroids captured by photographer Maripol and the striking sight of Basquiat’s triptych.

Up on the gallery’s top floor, the evening hit its crescendo with a dance party under a massive disco ball, as the jazz rhythms of Onyx Collective blended with a DJ set by Justin Strauss. Amidst swirling lights and an atmosphere charged with creativity, guests sipped champagne and danced into the early hours. It was a night where the worlds of art, style, and celebration merged seamlessly—truly a toast to the vibrant spirit of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the timeless allure of Dom Pérignon. Chin chin!
