The luxury Genesis GV80 SUV is taking a big step toward electrification, with a hybrid model arriving soon and a fully electric GV80 EV debuting later this decade.

Genesis has emerged as a serious contender in the luxury market, and with the industry’s shift toward EVs, the brand is doubling down—though not quite as originally planned. While Genesis initially committed to an EV-only future, it’s now taking a strategic detour with hybrid options before rolling out its next wave of fully electric models.

When is the Genesis GV80 EV Launching?

According to reports, Genesis will introduce the next-generation GV80 in 2026 or 2027, featuring a 2.5L hybrid powertrain for the first time. Currently, the midsize luxury SUV is available with either a 2.5L turbocharged four-cylinder or a 3.5L twin-turbo V6, so adding a hybrid should boost efficiency while maintaining its premium performance.

But the real game-changer? A fully electric GV80, set to debut in 2028.

The GV80 EV will reportedly ride on Hyundai’s upcoming eM platform, which is expected to:
✅ Increase driving range
✅ Enhance charging speeds
✅ Reduce production costs

The same platform will underpin the ultra-luxury Genesis GV90 and other future EVs, allowing Genesis to expand its electric lineup.

How Does the GV80 EV Compare to Rivals?

At 4,940 mm long, 1,975 mm wide, and 1,715 mm tall, the Genesis GV80 EV is positioned as a direct competitor to luxury electric SUVs like the:

🔹 Tesla Model Y (slightly smaller)
🔹 Porsche Macan EV (also slightly smaller)
