Kenya’s Hidden Gem: This Lesser-known National Park in Kenya Is the Ultimate Spot for Elephant Sightings — Here’s Where to Stay and How to See Them

A name that reverberates throughout the savannah in southern Kenya, murmured with a blend of wonder and expectation, is Craig. Even though he’s 51 years old, Craig has become famous all across the area and is now the most sought-after elephant in the area. Over breakfast, people talk about him, and over cocktails in the evening, they speculate. Everyone is hoping to get a good look at the fabled “super tusker,” who is known for his enormous, seemingly weightless ivory tusks.

While on an adventure with other safari lovers in Amboseli National Park not long ago, we were caught in a violent thunderstorm. Cradled in a cement structure, the suspense built up as word got out that Craig had been seen in the area. Our professional tracker, Johnson Salaash, led us on a mission to find the elusive behemoth. The enormous landscape, teeming with hyenas, buffalo, and cheetahs, did not deter Craig.

On the way back to camp, I thought about how my respect for animals has grown over the years. Elephants weren’t really my thing at first, but Salaash’s fervor and the beauty of the Kenyan jungle soon won me over. While stationed at Angama Amboseli, the excitement of seeing a variety of birds became an everyday pleasure, laying the groundwork for the more extensive safari experience.

Famous for its main resort, Angama Mara, the luxury lodge operator Angama is expanding significantly with the addition of Amboseli. Angama Mara, tucked away in the Maasai Mara, revolutionized safari hospitality with its chic decor and first-rate service. The choice to explore Amboseli shows a dedication to conservation and community involvement while also venturing into uncharted territory.

While speaking with Angama CEO Steve Mitchell, I was able to get a better understanding of the goals of this expansion as well as its possible effects on the surrounding environment. Mitchell’s dedication to ecotourism and community empowerment highlighted Angama’s larger purpose beyond just providing hospitality.

Working in tandem with groups such as the Big Life Foundation, Angama aspires to establish a balanced approach to protecting wildlife while also ensuring human livelihoods. To ensure that Kenya’s natural treasures are around for decades to come, Angama has launched programs that put an emphasis on community welfare and environmental protection.

This principle is personified by Angama Amboseli, which combines a profound respect for the natural environment with excellent architecture. Every element displays a dedication to sustainability and excellence, from the social rooms designed for leisure and reflection to the luxury guest apartments overlooking Kilimanjaro.

Hidden beneath the lavishness of a safari is the real magic of the experience: peaceful moments amidst the wild splendor of Africa. Every aspect of your stay at Angama Amboseli, from watching elephants in their native environment to enjoying farm-to-table cuisine, is filled with awe and harmony with nature.

Leaving this enchanting haven, I couldn’t help but be thankful for the opportunity to have seen Craig and his magnificent friends soar. Angama Amboseli is a symbol of optimism in a world when the need to preserve wildlife is more than ever; it is a reminder that we are all responsible for doing our part to keep the planet’s natural beauties safe.
