The endurance event known as the Rolex 24 at Daytona witnessed a display of formidable spirit and resilience by Lexus and Vasser Sullivan. Although securing prime positions at the forefront of the race, the outcome did not reflect the team’s overall prowess. Encountering trials on the track, the No. 14 RC F GT3 clinched an 11th-place finish in the GTD PRO class, while the No. 12 RC F GT3 settled for 15th place in the GTD category.

Commencing from the pole position, the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 remained a contender for victory in the GTD class throughout the arduous 24-hour contest. Aaron Telitz initiated the race alongside Parker Thompson, asserting dominance early on. Leading the pack for a significant portion of the initial three hours, they passed the reins to Ritomo Miyata, who made an impressive debut in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, maintaining a top-two position during his initial stint late Saturday afternoon.

Frankie Montecalvo undertook a double stint during the night hours, maintaining a steady pace as darkness enveloped Daytona International Speedway. Following a caution period with over 17 hours remaining, Telitz resumed driving duties for Vasser Sullivan Lexus, swiftly ascending from fourth to first after the restart. Engaging in a battle for the lead throughout the night, they remained among the top five as Sunday morning dawned. However, while Thompson contended for a podium finish during the final pit stop, the car ignited in the pit lane, leading to its withdrawal and eventual 15th-place finish. The No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 led for 146 laps.

Meanwhile, the No. 14 RC F GT3 embarked on its GTD PRO title defense by surmounting early setbacks in the Rolex 24 to secure an 11th-place finish, piloted by Jack Hawksworth, Ben Barnicoat, Kyle Kirkwood, and Mike Conway. Despite starting in second position, Barnicoat seized the lead for the first 40 minutes of the race, commanding the field for 14 laps. However, during the initial pit stop, Conway assumed control of the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus, only to be struck by a spinning rival during the subsequent restart, necessitating garage repairs. Through remarkable teamwork and efficiency, the crew swiftly executed adjustments, ensuring the car’s swift return to the race.

By diligently completing laps and avoiding trouble, the No. 14 team ascended into the top ten by midnight, capitalizing on the misfortunes of other competitors. Regrettably, the vehicle was forced to retire in the 16th hour of the endurance event due to overheating issues, ultimately finishing in 11th place.

The Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3s will resume competition at Sebring International Raceway for the 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday, March 16.
