Modena, January 22, 2024 – Following a remarkable 11-year journey marked by historic achievements in maritime exploration covering over two hundred thousand nautical miles, the collaboration between Giovanni Soldini and Maserati, an enduring and captivating alliance established in 2012 centered around the Maserati VOR70 monohull project, and subsequently reinforced in 2016 with the transition to the Maserati Multi70 trimaran, introducing foiling technology to oceanic voyages by becoming the pioneering vessel to incorporate a foil beneath the keel, draws to a close.
The nexus between experimentation, technological innovation, and athletic prowess, yielding extraordinary outcomes across various domains, formed the cornerstone of the bond between the Italian mariner and the Trident emblem. Throughout a decade, in tandem with the evolution of appendages, aerodynamic investigations, trim evaluations, and energy conservation endeavors, Giovanni Soldini and his crew have established nine new benchmarks on historic routes and participated in 27 international regattas. A saga punctuated by triumphs ranging from the 13,219 nautical miles traversed along the Golden Route from New York to San Francisco via Cape Horn, completed in 47 days, 42 minutes, and 29 seconds aboard the Maserati monohull in 2013, to victories in the Cape2Rio (2014) and the stellar performance in the Rolex Sydney-Hobart (2016).
Furthermore, the achievements aboard the Maserati Multi70 multihull include the record-setting voyage from Hong Kong to London (2018), accomplished in 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 2 seconds, surpassing the previous record by 5 days; the establishment of new records for the English Channel crossing and the Fastnet route (23 hours, 51 minutes, and 16 seconds) in 2021, alongside numerous triumphs in events such as the RORC Transatlantic Race, RORC Caribbean 600, and Rolex Middle Sea Race.
The Maserati Multi70, featuring spectacular and unforgettable exploits, remains the sole MOD to circumnavigate the globe, not once but four times (once aboard the monohull and thrice on the Maserati Multi70), culminating in the most recent circumnavigation in 2023, achieved with complete energy autonomy facilitated by the installation of a photovoltaic system and an electric propulsion engine onboard. Consequently, the Maserati Multi70 is also the inaugural oceanic racing yacht capable of generating all requisite energy for extended voyages.
Since 2022, the trimaran has been enlisted in UNESCO’s monitoring initiative, contributing along its voyages to the collection of vital data encompassing CO2 levels, salinity, and temperature, making invaluable contributions to the scientific community.
Giovanni Soldini reflects, “It has been a thrilling, adventurous odyssey marked by revelations, conquests, innovations, and sojourns across the ocean. With the invaluable backing of Maserati, we have been able to engage in top-tier experimentation and push the boundaries with achievements and outcomes of which we are immensely proud. I extend my gratitude to the Maserati team and all our partners who have accompanied us on this journey spanning over two hundred thousand miles. Lastly, heartfelt thanks to all the crew members who, over these years, have ardently and competently contributed to the realization of remarkable and significant milestones alongside me.”
Davide Grasso remarks, “Giovanni has steered the Trident across the seas for more than a decade, and it has been a privilege for us to align the Maserati brand with such a gifted, exemplary, and fervent sportsman and individual, epitomizing tenacity, valor, and devotion to his craft and our shared principles. As a significant chapter in our brand’s narrative draws to a close, we express our profound appreciation to Giovanni Soldini for his enduring dedication and for embodying the essence of our brand as its finest ambassador worldwide. Throughout the years, we have partaken in exhilarating escapades, glorious moments, and unforgettable records, which will eternally endure in Maserati’s sporting annals.”
