The 79th BAFTA Film Awards offered all the pomp and ceremony one would expect on Sunday evening, with A-listers showing off suitably spiffy ensembles at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
The carpet was a sea of sharp, tailored suits and elegant dress watches. Cartier dominated on the watch front, with several leading men strapping on the Parisian jeweler’s très chic timepieces. British actor Robert Aramayo beat Hollywood favorites Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet to win best actor for his performance in I Swear, accepting the BAFTA with a beautiful Ballon Bleu on his wrist. Hamnet lead Paul Mescal showed off a neo-vintage Tank Basculante, while Wasteman star Tom Blyth flexed a sleek, contemporary Santos-Dumont. David Jonsson was the standout in camp Cartier, sporting a gorgeous gold vintage Vendome.
Other nominees didn’t switch up their wrist candy at all. DiCaprio wore his go-toRolex Daytona “Le Mans.” Who could blame him? It is one of the rarest modern Rollies, after all. And Chalamet kept on the same Urban Jürgensen UJ-2 that earned him serious cred in the watch world.
See below the best watches at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards.
Patrick Dempsey: TAG Heuer Carrera Tourbillon
Patrick Dempsey looked as smart as ever, wearing head-to-toe Brunello Cucinelli and a TAG Heuer Carrera Tourbillon. The eye-catching piece showcases the signature bezel-free “glassbox design,” with a 39 mm steel wrapping around a smoky purple sunray dial and a striking tourbillon (Calibre TH20-00).
Robert Aramayo: Cartier Ballon Bleu
Robert Aramayo looked every part a winner as he accepted the BAFTA for best leading actor and the Rising Star Award, wearing a beautiful steel Ballon Bleu de Cartier and a matching Cartier ring, brooch, and cufflinks.
Timothée Chalamet: Urban Jürgensen UJ-2
Marty Supreme lead Timothée Chalamet didn’t nab a BAFTA, but definitely won the style game with his cool kid uniform of the moment: custom Givenchy and the IYKYK Urban Jürgensen UJ-2.
Ethan Hawke: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra
Ethan Hawke, nominated for his role in Blue Moon, put a fun spin on black tie, wearing a Giorgio Armani suit with a bolo tie and a steel Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra with a pine green dial.
Tom Blyth: Cartier Santos-Dumont
Wasteman star Tom Blyth was absolutely dripping in Cartier, pairing a large gold Santos-Dumont with a matching gold brooch, earring, ring, and bracelets.
Aaron Pierre: Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional
Aaron Pierre showed he is keeping up with the times, wearing the latest Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. Released in January, the timepiece features a 42 mm Moonshine gold case and a new reverse panda dial with mirrored black lacquer contrasted by bright white registers.
Leonardo DiCaprio: Rolex Daytona “Le Mans”
DiCaprio missed out on a BAFTA, but his Rolex itself is a prize. Released in 2023 to mark the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the white-gold Daytona (Ref. 126529LN) had an extremely short production run of only 10 months, making it extremely difficult (and expensive) to come by. (It is believed only a small quantity, possibly a couple of hundred pieces, exists.) The reference cost $51,400 upon release, but it now commands around $300,000 on the secondary market.
David Jonsson: Cartier Vintage Vendome
David Jonsson, nominated for his work on Wasteman, gave us a blast from Cartier’s past, wearing a vintage gold Vendome. Introduced in the 1970s, the elegant round watch was a tribute to the historic Place Vendôme square in Paris.
Stormzy: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked
Stormzy looked as schmick as ever, pairing a sharp Gucci suit with an equally sharp Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in black ceramic. The rapper is apparently a big fan of AP.
Stellan Skarsgård: Omega Seamaster Milano Cortina 2026
Stellan Skarsgård, nominated for best supporting actor for his turn in Sentimental Value, proved he was bang on trend, wearing the gold Omega Seamaster that was released in honor of the Winter Olympics.
Miles Caton: Louis Vuitton Tambour
Sinners actor Miles Caton swapped his Hublot Big Bang for a Louis Vuitton Tambour at the BAFTAs. Released in 2023, the aptly named Tambour Steel is a sporty riff on the 2002 original with a 40 mm steel case, an integrated steel bracelet, and a blue dial that is perfectly on trend.
Paul Mescal: Cartier Tank Basculante
Hamnet star Paul Mescal dressed up a relaxed Prada look with some Cartier finery, including a neo-vintage Tank Basculante watch from 1999, Reflection de Cartier earrings that he wore as a brooch, and a Juste un Clou tie pin.
