Senior HR Manager at Condé Nast China Pansy Luo delves into the significance of the Lunar New Year, her proudest project, and the groundbreaking D&I offline training in the market.
Could you illuminate your journey thus far? How did you become part of Condé Nast?
My voyage in human resources commenced nearly two decades after my college tenure, and I ventured into the realm of Condé Nast China 15 years later. At that juncture, our enterprise and the cohort within the Chinese Market had been steadily expanding since its inception in 2005. I seized the opportunity to align with the personnel troupe in the Shanghai establishment and have since been entrenched in this pursuit.
How do you delineate your vocation to acquaintances and kinfolk?
I am entrusted with the comprehensive stewardship of all facets relating to individuals ☺
The Lunar New Year approaches apace; what significance does this festivity hold for you, and what are your plans for commemoration?
A pivotal term during the Chinese Spring Festival, heralding the Lunar New Year, is reunion. Traditionally, on the eve of the New Year, we partake in a convivial family repast with our progenitors and siblings, exchanging aspirations and profound reflections for the year ahead. I shall persist in this ritual for the Lunar New Year!
Reflecting upon the ancient year of 2023, which endeavor stands out to you as a beacon of pride?
In 2023, Condé Nast China initiated our elite talent endeavor. As a human resources collaborator, I collaborated with sundry departments to discern the preeminent talents within each cohort and engaged in dialogues to propel the blueprint for talent cultivation. This constitutes a seminal initiative for the enterprise aimed at fostering and nurturing talents. I take immense pride in my involvement therein.
What pursuits do you aspire to engage in more fervently in the year 2024?
From the enterprise’s perspective, we aspire to yield greater dividends in nascent ventures. I, personally, aspire to help the various business departments triumphantly achieve this objective.
As a constituent of the HR contingent, how does Condé Nast China allure and retain top-tier talents amidst the competitive media milieu?
We remain attuned to internal benchmarks and yardsticks, fortifying our competitive footing within the market.
How does Condé Nast China cultivate a milieu of diversity and inclusivity within the workplace? Could you share any anecdotes with the global Condé Nast fraternity?
In November in 2023, we undertook the task of equipping our cadre of managers with the requisite training and resources to effect behavioral metamorphosis, foster empathy, and engender a workplace milieu characterized by mutual respect and dignity.
We orchestrated two workshops on inclusive leadership, conducted offline, for all leaders and managers across the Beijing and Shanghai establishments in China. This marked the inaugural instance of launching diversity and inclusion (D&I) offline training within the Chinese market. The workshops were successful as teams engaged in candid discourse and articulated their perspectives on D&I within an atmosphere of openness and trust. Participants garnered deeper insights into the import of diversity and inclusion and a heightened appreciation for how diversity serves as a crucible for innovation and cultivates teams characterized by peak performance.
