The most anticipated hotels of 2022 aren’t defined by a single location, design style, or even star rating (while some travelers prefer a grand five-star resort, others prefer an intimate boutique hotel—each traveler has their own preferences). The one thing they all have in common? They’re all, to put it mildly, cool.
Perhaps it’s their interiors that set them apart: Martin Brudnizki (of Annabel’s fame) will create a lavish jewel-tone design scheme for New York’s Fifth Avenue Hotel, for example. Perhaps it’s their culinary credentials: Mauro Colagreco, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and sushi chef Hiro Sato will all have restaurants at Maybourne Riviera on the Cote d’Azur. Perhaps it’s because they’re pioneering high-end hospitality: Costa Rica’s Habitas Santa Teresa will be a completely sustainable resort… with hydrofoils.

New York’s Fifth Avenue Hotel
The Fifth Avenue Hotel, designed by renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki, will be located on 28th and Fifth Avenue in a former McKim, Mead & White bank. Murano glass chandeliers and jewel-tone furniture will adorn the rooms, while the common areas will be filled with art from blue-chip galleries and Parisian flea markets. With views of Madison Square Park, the ballroom is sure to be a memorable event space.
New York’s The Aman
The Aman is set to open this year in the Crown Building on 57th Street. The landmark, which was built by the same architects as Grand Central Terminal and the Hemsley building, will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2021.
The Aman’s rooms are designed to be stark but spectacular: there’s a reason the brand, with its Asian-Scandanavian minimalist sensibilities, is a haven for well-heeled—and frequently celebrity—travelers. It will, however, have a dash of New York energy, as there will be a jazz club and a working fireplace in each room.
Catskills’ Chatwal Lodge
Chatwal Lodge, a sprawling property with ten suites spread across Adirondack-style buildings, will be located on the grounds of the 2,500-acre Chapin Estate, all with views of the Toronto Reservoir lake. It’s the newest upscale resort to open in Upstate New York, which has recently seen a resurgence of luxury resorts.
Nashville’s Soho House
Soho House will open a new club and hotel in the former May Hosiery Company factory in February, with a focus on the Music City. (By the way, May Hosiery used to make the socks that astronauts wore on the moon.) Soho Home furniture, as well as pieces made by local artisans, will be featured in their 47 bedrooms.
Napa Valley’s Stanly Ranch
Stanly Ranch, Auberge Resort’s new property in the California wine region, is set on a bucolic 712-acre vineyard with expansive views of the Mayacama Mountains. It’s intended to be a culinary and wellness retreat, with a working cattle ranch and a high-end restaurant in addition to the wine produced on the property. Everything from energy healing to sports science to IV infusions will be available at their spa and fitness center.
Berkshires, Lifehouse
Lifehouse, a 1970s-era Berkshires lodge with a library lounge, outdoor fire pit, cocktail club, and restaurant, will be transformed into a design-forward nature retreat. What’s on their moodboard in terms of aesthetics? From Herman Melville to Fanny Kemble, many authors have visited Lenox over the last century. Secretary-style writing desks and wire artwork evoking the inside of a typewriter will be featured in the rooms.
Los Angeles’ Soho House is located in Little Hollywood
This spring, Soho House will open a 34-room retreat in West Hollywood, near their popular Sunset Boulevard club. Interiors saturated in dusty sunset tones, rooftops with views of the Hollywood Hills, and a greenery-filled courtyard ideal for sipping everything from cocktails to matcha are all on the menu.
Taos’ Willa Hotel
The boutique Hotel Willa is located in downtown Taos, New Mexico, in an area so beautiful that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is built in the traditional adobe-style architecture of New Mexico. The interiors will feature textured terra-cotta-colored plaster walls, rich earth-tone fabrics, and a painterly palette, according to Los Angeles design studio Electric Bowery.
Delray Beach, Florida’s Seagate
The Seagate, a Floridian grand dame in Delray Beach, Florida, will be transformed into a resort with a hotel, spa, beach, and country club by buzzy interior design firm Studio Robert McKinley and hospitality group Long Weekend.
The Caribbean
Turks and Caicos Rock House
The Rock House, a five-star cliffside resort in Turks and Caicos set to open this winter, was designed by AD100 designer Shawn Henderson and Coast Architects. The beach club, which will be modeled after Europe’s buzzy, social beach clubs, will also feature the island’s largest infinity pool.
Europe
Riviera de Maybourne
Maybourne Riviera, a Côte d’Azur hotel with sprawling views of the Mediterranean and not one, not two, but three world-class restaurants, is from the same parent company as London’s iconic Claridge’s. (One is by Mauro Colagreco of Mirazur, the world’s best restaurant, another is by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and the third is by sushi chef Hiro Sato.) The hotel’s interior design will be an aesthetic adventure, with one-of-a-kind spaces designed by Andre Fu, Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, Marcelo Joulia, Pierre Yovanovitch, Pascal Goujon, and Rigby & Rigby, as well as the hotel’s in-house design team led by Michelle Wu.
Vienna Rosewood
The Rosewood will transform the centuries-old former headquarters of Erste Group Bank into a five-star hotel in Vienna’s Old Town this summer. Expect it to attract Viennese locals and visitors alike, with 99 guestrooms, a spa, a rooftop bar, and a garden restaurant.
Mykonos, Cali
Cali Mykonos, a new Cycladic getaway with 40 luxury villas all with private pools, patios, and views of the Aegan, will open on its own private beach. Take a dip in the hotel’s inviting main pool, or hire one of the hotel’s yachts or speed boats for a tour to a nearby island.
Capri’s Hotel La Palma
This spring, the Oetker Collection, the same hospitality company that owns the legendary Hotel du Cap, will focus on a new European summertime hotspot: Capri. They plan to convert the historic Hotel La Palma, the island’s oldest hotel, into a 50-room resort with a beach club, restaurant, pool deck, spa, and boutiques.
Lake Como, Passalacqua
An 18th century property formerly owned by Count Andrea Luccini-Passalacqua will be transformed into a 24-room boutique hotel by Italy’s renowned De Santis hotelier family. One of the suites, billed as the largest on Lake Como, includes a double-height balustraded music room, where Bellini composed La Sonnambula in 1831. It will be a sister hotel to the famous Grand Hotel Tremezzo.
Edition de Madrid
A new Edition outpost will open near Madrid’s Puerta de Sol, with 200 rooms and five food and beverage concepts. Locals can use over 3,700 square feet of studio space, while guests can enjoy the outdoor pool and spa.
Ibiza’s The Standard
The Standard will open a 67-room hotel on Vara de Rey in Ibiza’s Old Town, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It will feature a rooftop restaurant and bar, an expansive swimming pool, and (since this is the Standard), a vibrant social scene. Plus, you’ll be right in the heart of the island’s beautiful, bustling, beachy heart.
Costa del Sol, La Zambra
“La Zambra” is a type of flamenco dance, so it should come as no surprise that a new Costa de Sol hotel named after it aims to be a lot of fun. Three swimming pools, two tennis courts, two paddle courts, a gym, a spa, and a nightclub are all planned. La Zambra opens in what was previously known as the Hotel Byblos, which attracted celebrities such as Princess Diana and the Rolling Stones during its heyday.
Rome’s Palazzo Roma
Palazzo Roma, a luxurious new hotel whose original frescoes, stuccos, and gilded decorations will be painstakingly restored, is housed in an 18th-century residence once owned by Italian nobility. It’s just a few steps from Via del Croso and 20 steps from the Trevi Fountain, though guests may not want to leave the ornate halls.
Rome’s Bulgari
Bulgari will open a hotel in the city where it was founded in 2022, marking a homecoming. Bulgari Rome, in the Campo Marzio neighborhood of Rome, will have views of two iconic Rome landmarks: Ara Pacis and the Augustus Mausoleum.
Rome’s Six Senses
Six Senses, the cutting-edge wellness hospitality group, has set its sights on Rome, following its European properties in London and Ibiza. The hotel, designed by Patricia Urquiola, a well-known fashion architect, and designer, will be “a quiet and colorful oasis,” as the Six Senses puts it.
Athens’ One&Only Aesthesis
One&Only’s new location on the Glyfada seafront aims to recreate 1960s and 1970s Grecian glamour with a “hybrid city resort,” according to the company. What exactly does that imply? Think: A 65-acre estate with bungalows and a beach club that is still close to the hustle and bustle of historic Athens.
London’s Twenty Two
The Twenty Two, a 31-bedroom property with a restaurant and a private members club, is set to open on Grosvenor Square in London’s Mayfair neighborhood. According to the hotel, the interiors will be done in a “opulent yet welcoming style.”
Americas Central and South
Trancoso Fasano
Fasano Trancoso, a new luxury resort in Trancoso, Brazil, one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, will open this winter. The hotel will be spread out over 700 acres on Itapororoca and will have over 1,600 feet of shoreline, designed by renowned Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld.
Costa Rica’s Santa Teresa Habitas
Habitas, a hotel chain known for its hip, millennial-friendly properties in hot spots, has set its sights on a new destination: Santa Teresa. Their eco-friendly surf destination will be nestled in a beachfront jungle on the Nicoya Peninsula, with a spa, restaurant, pool, and sunken firepit. Hydrofoiling, ATV “surfaris,” and underwater volcano snorkeling are just a few of the adventurous and cutting-edge activities available.

South Africa’s Homestead
The new eco-luxury lodge The Homestead is set to open in the Nambiti reserve, which is home to 50 species of wildlife. The Homestead will offer everything from tailored game drives to cooking classes and birding adventures, despite its small size (only 12 suites) and location (over 23,000 acres of wilderness).
