Train travel from London is about to get a glamorous upgrade with the launch of the Britannic Explorer, Belmond’s latest addition to its portfolio of luxury trains. Starting July 2025, this opulent sleeper train will offer three-day itineraries from the capital to some of the UK’s most breathtaking destinations, including the Lake District, Cornwall, and Wales.
The Britannic Explorer is the first luxury sleeper train to feature extended itineraries departing from London, redefining the way travelers experience England and Wales.
With just 18 cabins, including three grand suites, the Britannic Explorer has been designed by London-based studio Albion Nord. Inspired by the landscapes of its destinations, the interiors boast a timeless Art Deco aesthetic with luxurious touches like velvet sofas, striped wallpaper, and plush beds. Adding to the indulgence, the train includes an on-board spa, ensuring guests can unwind in style.
The Britannic Explorer leans into Belmond’s reputation for exceptional culinary experiences with menus crafted by Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan. Focusing on sustainability, the meals highlight seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Guests can savor everything from bespoke afternoon teas to exquisite dinners, perfectly paired with fine wines and artisanal spirits.
Stops along the journey include visits to national parks, cultural landmarks, and artistic hubs:
• A private dinner and tour at Somerset’s Hauser & Wirth gallery and its Da Costa restaurant
• Guided hikes through the scenic landscapes of Wales
• Wild swimming in the serene lakes of the Lake District
As night falls, the Botanic Bar, also serving as the observation cart, offers cocktails crafted with artisan spirits. Passengers can enjoy their drinks while admiring illuminated views of the countryside.
The launch of the Britannic Explorer coincides with the 200th anniversary of modern railways, a fitting tribute to the timeless allure of train travel. With prices starting at £11,000 for a double cabin, the three-night itinerary includes excursions, meals, wines, and other beverages on board.
For those seeking luxury on the rails, 2025 promises to be a year of unparalleled journeys. From the Britannic Explorer’s exploration of the UK to the Orient Express’s La Dolce Vita through Italy, train travel has never looked more enticing.
