This past weekend, I went outside dressed in my go-to fall ensemble of jeans, a knit turtleneck sweater, and a light quilted jacket. I knew it was time to start gathering my winter needs as soon as I realized I should have worn something thicker. I went through my clothes carefully and produced everything I needed, including warm, snug shoes, gloves, caps, sweaters, and heavier-weight jeans. Thus, I went to my three favorite stores, Nordstrom, Madewell, and J. Crew, to discover the six items of apparel I must have to complete my winter outfit. The best part is that costs begin at $23.
Topshop Long-Sleeve Maxi Sweater Dress, $71 (Originally $94); nordstrom.com is one of my six winter essentials.
$110 for the Ugg Tasman Slipper; nordstrom.com
Dad Jeans by Levi’s, $98; nordstrom.com
Italian Leather Tech Gloves by J. Crew, $138 initially, now $69 with promo SHOPEARLY; jcrew.com
Madewell’s Wide-Rib Turtleneck Sweater (originally $98; now $69 with coupon LETSGO); madewell.com
The faux fur bucket hat from Topshop costs $23 (was $31) at Nordstrom.com.
Madewell Turtleneck Sweater with Wide Ribs
I’m adding Madewell’s striped Wide-Rib Turtleneck Sweater to my basket because, to paraphrase Spongebob, “The best time to wear a striped sweater is all the time.” It is available in three solid colors in sizes 2XS and 2XL and in two white-striped variations (green and blue). It has an oversized drop shoulder, thick ribbed cuffs, slits at the side seam, and a foldover turtleneck. The knit sweater is cut to high at the hips and fits loosely.
Jeans by Levi’s
My denim collection has been entirely revamped due to my recent weight change. In addition to giving away my old jeans, I’ve been buying some new ones, like these Levi’s Dad Jeans from Nordstrom. They fit and feel so unique that they’ve quickly become one of my favorite jeans. I’m returning for them in this black hue.
The loose-fitting jeans have a low waist that ends at the ankle and are available in sizes 25 through 33. They also have a conventional zipper and button closure to ease on and off. I will wear them with bulky sweaters, comfortable shoes, or ankle boots, like the Madewell Wide-Rib Turtleneck Sweater described before.
Faux fur bucket hat from Topshop
I used bucket hats in the summer to hide my unruly hair, but I’ve since decided that the breezy style I was going for wasn’t appropriate for the chilly weather. I first considered donning a baseball cap once more, but then I noticed this Topshop faux fur bucket hat, and I have not stopped contemplating it ever since.
Warm chocolate in color, the wide-brimmed hat is lined with luxurious, short-hair fake fur that is stylish and cozy. For a night out with my ladies, I want to style it with an LBD, knee-high heels, and an enormous fake leather bomber jacket.
