The crowds are possibly the only downside of the Amalfi Coast, but you can bypass them completely with Isolaria.
The private island, which is perfectly positioned between Sorrento and Positano, can be exclusively rented out by one party at a time through Exceptional Villas. That makes it something of an anomaly, as most private islands off the Amalfi Coast are family-owned or run by resorts and are not available for buyouts.
Isolaria sits within a protected marine area, meaning it is surrounded by pristine waters that are rich with marine life. The small, rocky island is also home to migratory birds and other diverse wildlife. It has a private nature trail on which you can take it all in. But nature isn’t all Isolaria offers.
The island is accessible only by boat, making it a truly private escape. At the center lies a luxury villa with five large suites that can sleep up to 10 guests, along with an independent annex that can accommodate another two guests. The interiors are elegant yet understated, reflecting the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. Large, airy rooms open to shaded terraces surrounded by fragrant gardens and an elevated infinity pool that seems to dissolve into the surrounding ocean. Further afield lie a helipad and two private docks to facilitate comings and goings.
A dedicated chef will be on hand to prepare all meals using ingredients sourced directly from the island. Think wood-fired pizza and a bottle of wine served at sunset. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn how to make traditional Italian dishes during a cooking class with the chef. The live-in team includes a waiter and maid, too, so you’ll seldom have to lift a finger.
But perhaps the Isolaria’s biggest draw is the chance it gives you to explore. The island’s convenient location means you can easily head to Capri for seaside dining and shopping, Positano for swimming at Spiaggia Grande beach, or Amalfi for a tour of a medieval Roman Catholic cathedral, then cruise back to your hidden oasis far away from the crowds.
As you might expect, Isolaria does not come cheap. Rates start at 47,619 euros, or about $55,127 a night. That works out to be 333,335 euros ($385,953) for the standard seven-night minimum. Contact Exceptional Villas for more information.
